I was the dead center of Ellen Silver Prize Band at 6 years of age. The Guru taught me how to live life from the dead center. Try this one for size; Here am I, sitting between the third trumpet and the first trumpet. When I played sharp, the first trumpet said to me, "You're in my territory". When I played flat, the third trumpet said to me, "That's my territory". By continually listening and testing the boundaries, I found the dead center. I could then play my part.
